What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

The patient confirmed that they had lost 65% of the hearing in their left ear and then became ill, feeling sick, as if they had a bad virus. They passed out on the kitchen floor and later explained what had happened. They had received a vaccine one week earlier and said that within that week, they lost their hearing. After visiting an audiologist and then an ENT specialist for multiple tests, the providers had no idea what had caused it and referred the patient on, as they were uncertain about the reason. Something had happened to the cochlear nerve, but it was unknown what it was. The patient mentioned that they had received Flucelvax on 09-Oct-2025, and within seven days, they lost hearing in the left ear with an abrupt, acute onset. I said I get that shot at my primary so no thank you to getting it today (i was not due for it today, my last tetanus shot was in 2019). The women giving the shot called my name. Sat me down and said what arm. Did not verify my name, DOB, or what shot I was getting. Once she gave me the shot, she gave me a receipt with another persons name. When I walked away I saw it was not my name, turned around and said this was the wrong receipt. It had another name on it or something like that. She said ?that?s not you? Not your last name?? I said no, my name is XX. She said that paper is what they gave her to give me. She said hold on, walked back to the pharmacy area, came out a few minutes later and asked what shot I was supposed to get. I said the flu shot. She said she gave me the tetanus shot. On November 3rd, 2025, we noticed a spot which we initially thought was a freckle. The following morning, November 4th, 2025, she woke up covered in these spots along with a lot of new bruising all over her body. These symptoms worsened through the day and we took her to the pediatrician that day where they did a blood panel (CBC). On November 5th at 11:30am, the doctor called with her results. Her platelet levels came back at a 1, critically low. She was then rushed to the emergency room less than an hour later. Her symptoms worsened and her levels stayed critically low during her visit. She received two doses of IVIG, one on November 6th and one on November 7th. It is now November 10th and we are awaiting results from her blood draw to see if she is responding to treatment. More

While receiving my flu shot the nurse asked me if I was tensing. I answered, no but I can feel that... While receiving my flu shot the nurse asked me if I was tensing. I answered, no but I can feel that you can't push that all the way in. She then just pushed harder. As I ran the flu clinic (work) I was around for most of the day. She even asked me if it hurt that afternoon. Next day it felt like a normal flu shot pain. The day after that I started having pain that ran down my arm into my fingers. I had/have trouble lifting my arm above my shoulder. I saw my primary on 10/8/25 as it seemed way too long to be experiencing pain. She gave me steroids (Prednisone 10 mg for 5 days) which made the pain dull. Shortly after the pain became worse. Tylenol and Ibuprofen wouldn't touch the pain. I couldn't even type at desk level with my left hand due to pain and weakness. I went back to my doctor for my annual on November 3rd. I complained again of the pain. She referred me to orthopedics. I was seen on November 6th by ortho. I had x-rays done, which showed nothing. The doctor used the physical push and pull tests several ways with my arm. He then stated he believes it is a torn rotator cuff. I am going tomorrow, November 11th for an MRI. I have a follow up with ortho on November 19th. Pain comes and goes but it's always there, just duller sometimes. More

No discomfort at the time of the vaccination or for the week following. By the end of the 2nd week, muscle pain had developed in the upper arm, and tenderness at the site. During the 3rd week, the puncture site opened up with very sore to the touch raw wet flesh about 1/4" around the puncture site, bruising around the puncture site. By the end of that 3rd week, nerve pain developed in the upper arm, sometimes radiating down the arm. Reported to [withheld], [withheld] Employee Health Nurse, on the morning of 11/4/25, who strongly suggested being seen by a physician at the [withheld] where I worked. I was seen by Dr [withheld] in the afternoon of 11/4/25 who believes it to be a deep hematoma. Within 24 hours after receiving an influenza vaccination in the right arm, the patient developed sudden severe shoulder pain in that arm. Over the next several days the pain spread across the upper back and into the left shoulder. The right-arm pain later improved somewhat, but the left arm developed progressive weakness and pain. At present (2 months post-vaccination) the patient cannot lift the left arm above shoulder height because of marked weakness in the deltoid and surrounding muscles. No fever, rash, or systemic illness occurred. Evaluation for possible post-vaccination brachial neuritis (Parsonage Turner syndrome) versus cervical radiculopathy is in progress. The event has caused major limitation of daily activities and concern for neurologic injury. More
