Important: This site is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the CDC, FDA, or any government agency. We are an independent service that makes public VAERS data easier to search and analyze.

What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)
  • Legally accessible - Available to researchers, media, and the general public under FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)
  • Not protected health information - Once de-identified and published by the government, it's no longer covered by HIPAA restrictions

Why does this site exist?

We believe in transparency and public access to health data. While the CDC/FDA provide VAERS data, their official site:

All data is downloaded directly from the official CDC/FDA VAERS website at vaers.hhs.gov/data.

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals
  • Remember: billions of vaccine doses have been safely administered

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

  • ✅ Monitored by CDC/FDA experts who investigate concerning patterns

Limitations:

  • ⚠️ Overreporting - coincidental events may be reported
  • ⚠️ Incomplete data - not all fields are required

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

Their arm was red (large area from upper arm to elbow (right arm)), slightly swollen, slightly warm to the touch. Upon evaluation seems to had been an injection site reaction. The evening of immunization patient stated they had fever & pain and took Tylenlol. Patient did not present with any other symptoms (no longer w/fever, no other signs of allergic reaction, no headaches, no trouble breathing). I (pharmacist) consulted patient to take 2 benadryl tablets right away then 1 tab every 4 to 6 hours & to consult PCP. Patient seemed hesitant and worried so I (pharmacist) called PCP office @ 11am on 7/2/25 to report incident. I spoke to a representative who was unable to connect me to the office directly and collected all information and details about the incident and stated they will have a med assist./nurse/or MD follow up with patient. I tried to reach patient after reporting incident they did not call pharmacy back. I saw patient at pharmacy in person a few weeks later and they reported she was fine that she saw PCP but didn't disclose details about their encounter. More

Very large knot noted at L Deltoid, Per , only vaccine given that date by above named clinic, lot number provided. Patient and father state lot was significantly larger and reddened and more painful day after vaccination and is improving but is still present on exam 2 weeks post vaccination. I did go ahead and give MCV4 vaccination to R Deltoid (opposite site) as it has been 2 weeks, and she has not had an adverse reaction to other vaccinations in past. More

Pt. states sometime 8/7/2025 she noticed that it was itchy and had a painful knot in the area where the Tdap was given. Pt. presents to medical facility today for a check up on the area. Area observed on upper right arm in deltoid region has an approx. 2 inch long red area with mulitple tiny bumps-pt. states she has been popping the bumps and a yellowish fluid comes out. A 1 inch knot is felt under the skin, pt. grimaces when area is touched and states it hurts under the skin but superficially it itches. Pt. advised symptoms can be normal to use warm compress for swelling and use a hydrocortizone cream on the skin for itching. If symptoms persist, see PCP. More

About 24 hours after the vaccine I developed a blister like sore in my mouth on the frenulum of my top lip, this proceeded to turn into a canker sore looking thing. I got another canker sore on the bottom left. Then I got another small bump at the very top left gum of my mouth that turned into a canker sore. I also have a third bump on the bottom right down by where the lips and gums meet again now. The top middle bump is not a blister but looks like a small skin lesion now, the top left is still a canker sore, the bottom right is still a little bump or blister of sorts that appears under the skin. The outbreak of sores was very painful and disruptive to eating and drinking. More
