What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)
  • Legally accessible - Available to researchers, media, and the general public under FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals
  • Remember: billions of vaccine doses have been safely administered

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

They started him on the seizure medication, They asked if he has ever had one before and that was 55 years ago when we had first started dating. He was in the living room and he was kinda shaky and i just walked into the bed room and i heard a crashed and i went a looked and he passed out on the floor, he had a big mark on the side of his head it was bleeding and i called 911 and they took him in. They checked him and changed his medications around. And its never really cleared up and they said he might have had a minor seziure once when he couldn't form words and then it went away after a few moments and he was fine. But they wanted me to take him back to the hospital and i did and they did a CT. They did find out that when he hit his head his brain bounced around and caused a bleed on the other side and they changed the medicine around again. He has dizziness and nauseous from the medication. More

Per parents this has happened once before but not from a vaccine appointment and it resolved without treatment per parents. This episode resolved in less than ten minutes; at no point was breathing compromised; child was drinking her bottle without any difficulty the entire time. By mid day sensation of hole being drilled in top center of skull, intensely nauseated, repeated episodes of vomiting and dry heaves. Nothing consumed but a few sips of coffee, and water. Coffee was not repeated as vomiting was nearly immediate. Impossible to keep even small amounts of water down. Dizziness, difficult to walk. Only rose to vomit and urinate. Slept all day. July 9, 9 am still felt awful, but vomiting stopped able to sip a little water. No appetite. All other symptoms continued, including feeling nauseated. Slept much of the day. July 9, night - insomnia. Bizarre dream during the only 30 minute period of sleep that night. July 10, 9 am still felt awful, plus exhausted from insomnia, eyes burning. Could sip more water and eat a bit more. So dehydrated! Symptoms continued, a bit milder. Basically felt much the same, just less so. By that evening I felt well enough to go out. All meals were followed by a period of feeling bad in the stomach though meals were small. July 11, 9 am felt dizzy and lousy. This "morning sickness" continued until Monday July 14.
