What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)
  • Legally accessible - Available to researchers, media, and the general public under FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

I received my 7th Covid vaccine at the same pharmacy where I had previously had 6 Covid injections. ... For this 7th injection, my left shoulder/arm has been sore and in pain for 7 months. For the first 5 months, it was uncomfortable to move my arm certain ways but I pretty much had full range of motion. In the past 2 months, the pain has gotten worse and range of motion has been affected. I wake up every morning with a sore shoulder and certain movements cause instense pain. My orthopecic surgeon told me that it is inflammation/bursitis and getting a cortisone shot is an option. However, given my pain is from an injection in my shoulder, I'm a little hesitant to get another injection in my shoulder that will also cause pain for a few days. More

Nausea/ dizziness ... Nausea/ dizziness At approximately 0908, I began administering vaccines to a 17-year-old female patient. Prior to administration, I asked if the patient had eaten. Mother stated she had not. I offered the patient a snack prior to preparing the vaccines. A total of four vaccines were administered. Following the final dose (MenB), the patient became quiet and was unable to speak for approximately four seconds. I remained with the patient and instructed the mother to notify another nurse. I stood in front of the patient and observed pallor. The patient then verbalized feeling dizzy and nauseated. An emesis bag was provided; no emesis occurred. RN arrived with the emergency bag. Initial vitals obtained at 0915 were: T 98.5๏ฟฝF, HR 54?64, SpO2 99% on RA, BP 108/47. Vitals were monitored every five minutes with improvement noted. Final set of vitals: T 98.5๏ฟฝF, HR 62, SpO2 98%, BP 111/74. The patient was offered juice and stated she felt better. She reported experiencing cold sweats and nervousness following the MenB dose. RNs remained with the patient and provided education to the mother. Patient stated she felt well enough to go home. Recommended that patient remain home for the remainder of the day and continue to monitor for any further adverse effects. Injection sites were assessed post-vaccination. No signs of adverse reaction noted at this time. Will follow up with patient. More

She transported to Hospital in (redacted), where she was diagnosed suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome due to the covid vaccine (the ER doctor told us that they had seen a sharp uptick in GBS cases from the vaccine, especially in the elderly). Her GBS left her paralyzed from the waist down. One week later she was transferred to a nearby nursing care facility. The GBS paralysis spread up her torso over the next 4 weeks when she went into a coma, and passed away on 8/22/2021. More
