What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

The parents signed the consent for this patient to receive 7 vaccines. Once the consent was signed the nurse left the exam room and prepared the vaccines. When she returned to the room with the vaccines the patient became very combative. He screamed, elbowed his dad in the face, smacked his mother in the face, and smacked the nurse's arm away from him with an exposed needle in her hand. The patient's agitation continued to escalate and the nurse instructed the parents to return with the patient at a later date/time and we would try again. We placed all the vaccines in a basket and returned them to the refrigerator. We did not know if the patient would return that afternoon, we also didn't know if he would comply if he did return. In an effort not to waste vaccines we used 2 of the vaccines from the basket on another patient. The patient did return that afternoon and the nurse replaced the vaccines that were removed from the patients basket. Unfortunately one of the vaccines was an additional MMR II vaccine instead of the vaccine that needed to be replaced. The patient was mistakenly given two MMR II vaccines instead of one. The nurse realized the mistake as she was documenting the vaccines in the NCIR. She immediately notified the parents and we monitored the patient in-office for an hour and a half. The nurse educated the parents on what side effects and/or reverse reactions to watch for. The nurse continued to check on the patient throughout that evening, night, and the next day. The patient did not experience any reactions or adverse side effects. He will return in 28 days from 2-24-25 to get the vaccine that he was not given on 2-24-25. More

When patient turned 40 and started going in for annual physicals and the doctor said we probably need to get a pcv 13 shot. Patient didn't have any respiratory issues beyond that and at his 45 y/o check up, they said the pneumonia shot can have every 5 years and gave patient another pcv 13 shot. Patient had no issues beyond that and when he turned 50 they said the pneumonia shot was up and gave another pcv 13 shot, that night patient had terrible tremors, shakes, convulsions, alternating hot sweats and chills, body sweats with fever that would break, it was a 5 or 6 hour occurrence. Fast forward to the next year, patient was at a health fair through his employment and they had the flu and pneumonia shots and he was visiting with a nurse taking this information, and they had a recap about the 3rd pcv 13 shot and she said, patient were only suppose to have [inaudible] pneumonia shot whole life. She said it could kill patient if I took the 4th, she said patient was only suppose to have two and then since he had side effects from the 3rd shot the 4th could kill patient. Patient asking if he's gonna be at risk or does it have a deadly reaction if he took Prevnar20 Vaccine. He has been 15 years nearly, his PVC would never give him that advise, he has a new PCP and it doesn't get him anywhere. As per caller (patient) he had an emergency where his spleen was removed that is why he needs to take a flu shot every year and pneumonia shots as per his doctor. When he was on his 30s he had some respiratory issues that attributed to his spleen and he took antibiotic about a year. As per caller during the third Prevnar 13 there was reaction that night that cause him to have convulsions tremors and shaking. No investigations. It was in 2009, and he was administered the shot during office hours and the reactions occurred after bedtime so maybe 5-10 hours afterwards 'this' close to duration". Immunizations on the same date with this Pfizer vaccine might be a flu shot. Contacted doctor's office 5 days after vaccination to confirm course of action and was informed to continue treating with ice packs and anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen). After 14 days the swelling was finally reduced, no longer painful, and a bruise/skin discolouration is still visible at the injection site. She said at first there was redness/swelling/pain at the injection site; but redness/swellling/pain went away and now there is a lump. Pt. reports no fever/systemic side effects occurred. Injection site no longer red/painful. I told her I would call her Monday 3/3/25 to see how she was doing; she understood to go to ER if she developed fever. etc. or if injection site worsened. 3/3/25; pt. reports no other side effects just the lump. At first she said it was 1/2 the size (decreased), but then she said it is the same size. (1/2 of a marble); she reports no pain. She said she pressed on it hard, and there is no pain. We discussed vaccines can cause redness/swelliing at the injection site temporarily, but lumps are not as common/atypical response. I told her it could take some time for it to go away (several weeks?). I told her I would file a report and call her if I needed anymore informaton. She seemed satisfied with the follow-up efforts. She knows to go to the doctor if necessary, but declined on 3/1/25 Saturday, and did not seem interested in being seen on 3/3/25. She reports no history of any problems/side effects with vaccines. The disease progressed exponentially after that point. Sadly, he was only diagnosed in late 2024, undergoing intensive steroid and chemotherapy treatment (at the age of 10). Despite treatment, the disease continues though there has been improvement. However, there is permanent damage to his face, with a deep gouge vertically through his forehead. Given that En Coup de Sabre is an autoimmune disease (a form of scleroderma), the doctors assume this was triggered by the covid 19 vaccine which has triggered many autoimmune responses. More
