What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

Mom called for help and states his rolled back and he slid out of his chair. He was in a sitting pos... Mom called for help and states his rolled back and he slid out of his chair. He was in a sitting position with MA supporting him on the floor and upright when RN entered room and he stated what happened. "I got my shot" and he told the doctor "I saw someone getting his shots and then I felt sleepy." He laid down and his coat was removed. RN was placing a cool compress on his forehead. Vitals obtained HR 91, O2 99%, 110/74, RR 18. He had not eaten any food today and he had drank one juice box in the office and a second after this event. He also said he does remember feeling sleepy and watching his brother getting his vaccines which was after patient had received his vaccines. Mom reports he started to slump in his chair. They also said the reason he had nothing to eat for breakfast today or prior to visit was because he did not go to bed until 6 am and then when parents woke him with only enough time to head to the office for his 10 am visit. He did not lose consciousness to the best of his knowledge or parent's knowledge and he was alert while mom called for help. He had no sleepiness after this occurred, no incontinence and felt fine and wanted to go pick out a prize with his brothers. Mom encouraged to call with any questions or concerns. I advised he not watch his siblings receive shots in the future as this can precipitate vasovagal syncope and near syncope. Some time after receiving the Moderna Vaccines i began to experience pain, tingling, and numbing in ... Some time after receiving the Moderna Vaccines i began to experience pain, tingling, and numbing in my arms and legs as well as a deterioration of muscle strength and size in my arms, legs, back, abdomen etc.. i was losing my muscle mass - they seem to be shrinking . I also began to lose my balance, my legs became weak and unstable. I went to a neurologist who did blood work and nerve tests and determined I had "Peripheral Neuropathy" causing muscle weakness. Continuation from description of problem: Dr suspected other problems so he sent me to another neurologist - Dr. After many tests, electrical and blood, Dr suspected I had developed an auto-immune disease called - IBM ( Inclusion Body Myositis) so he sent me to Dr, (on sept 14 2023) ______ a general surgeon to do a biopsy on my muscles. Fortunately a biopsy is a definative method to determine if IBM is present and the cause of muscle deterioration. Unfortunately, we received the results of the biopsy (Oct 2023) which showed a positive outcome for IBM - I DO in fact now have IBM. The results of the biopsy are readily available of course. As a consequence, i am now suffering the long term affects of IBM - severe muscle deterioration especially in my legs and arms. At this point, i am ALMOST unable to walk as my leg muscles are completely unstable. I have fallen multiple times, ending up in the hospital emergency room. Once time i cut my head severely during a fall which had to be stitched up of course. At this point, feb 2025 I am sitting home because I fell again, dislocated and broke my right ankle bone requiring surgery, and the inclusion of multiple screws and a plate on the bone. Unfotunately i suspect i will be unable to walk at all within a year or so - as the affects have gotten severe. I walk now (albeit in a crippled fashion) with a cane or a walker as best i can. Today i am a patient of Dr who seems to be the ONLY local neurologist with an understanding of IBM. He was acquired through the Muscular Dystrophy association. After Dr did his tests and verified the result of the biopsy confirming IBM, he put me on IV IG (intravenous Immuniglobulin) monthly. A nurse visits and administers the medicine... It DOES have some positive affects - my swallowing is improved ( it has gotten bad over time) and i have regained SOME movement in the fingers of my hands. My hometown was severely affected by a flood on February 15th (worst in recorded history for our county). I hosted a Tetanus and Hepatitis Vaccine Clinic at the local elementary school, which is serving as a hub to donate supplies and water to those affected. Patient is a teacher and was volunteering her time. She had been at the school all week and hung out around my station all day. I administered patient's tetanus vaccine around 2:30 pm to her left arm. At this time, she was fine. I left the site around 3:30pm. She left the site around 5 to go home, where she lives alone. Around 5:30pm she was on the phone with a friend when he could tell something went wrong and she fell to the floor. He called 911. She was unconscious, but had a pulse and was taken to the nearest ER. I went to the ER when I found out the news around 8pm to be as transparent with the provider as possible and provide any additional information. The nurse took down my name and phone number. Dr. came out and said she had experienced a "catastrophic stroke" and was being flow to a Medical Center for further assessment. Patient was on the vent and unresponsive at my last update. More

Bed cot- brought to patient and patient was supported to stand, pivot and lay on cot. Student appeared pale, hands were shaky and sweating. BP rechecked laying down 11:20 am 100/74. Student reported slight improvement, but nervous to stand up. Pt sat upright with RN by her side, BP rechecked 1130am 122/62. Was wheelchaired to observation area to attempt to eat lunch around 1145am. 12:10 patient still reported feeling unwell, able to sit upright. Was escorted in wheelchair downstairs to nurse office to call parents. Parents picked up patient to go home. More
