What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)
  • Legally accessible - Available to researchers, media, and the general public under FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals
  • Remember: billions of vaccine doses have been safely administered

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

Shortly after vaccination developed avascular necrosis of the hips (idiopathic) requiring hip replacement of both hips as well as revisions to the replacements (all within the last 3+ years) as my immune system reacted adversely to the surgery via inflammation and excessive scar tissue adhesion. During this period I developed other orthopedic problems with no known cause or event requiring surgery of the shoulder, wrist, and spinal. Note the first spinal fusion was also rejected by the body and did not fuse requiring a second fusion. Lastly, I developed aberrant nerve regeneration in my brain requiring surgery (microvascular nerve decompression). They told me that a virus had destroyed part of my auditory nerve, and my hearing was greatly reduced in my right ear. They tried antibiotics directly into the ear but with no positive effect. I have gone for check-ups, and my ear has not gotten any better, I still have tinnitus-like symptoms and hearing loss in my right ear. Sometimes, the rings seem to be in both ears. It became worse over night. She applied remedy moisture cream and some anti-itch cream which did not seem to help much. By morning she had a red rash and her skin was super sensitive. The material that was touching her was hurting her. She took a prescribed antihistamine and contacted her doctors office. She spoke with a nurse and was advised to take Benadryl as apposed to the prescribed antihistamine. By the next day her eyelids were even itching. I discussed this with RN and pharmacist prior to second vaccine and they instructed me to get the second vaccine and see my primary care MD if symptoms continue. Patient lost consciousness and EMT's were called. Patient was in and out of consciousness for approximately 10 minutes while we waited for the EMT's to arrive. Patient did receive some Vitamin Water while she was conscious but the emergency services instructed us to stop because they were concerned that she would lose consciousness again. The last time I was sick enough to miss a day of school or work, I was in the 8th grade. I went thru 4 yrs of High School, 4 years of College, 36 years of Work and 11 years of retirement without ever being sick. I received my first Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination on 2/15/21, my second on 3/8/21 and a booster on 12/17/21. Beginning in January of 2022, I developed severe Chest Congestion. It was cleared up with a prescription of Prednisone. I have had the same Chest Congestion develop every Winter since my Covid-19 Booster Vaccination. A 7 to 10 day prescription of Prednisone will temporarily clear it up but it always returns. I've had chest x-Rays (all clear I've been prescribed a Z-pack which did nothing, I've visited my PCP with this condition numerous times. I've visited an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist twice. The only thing that helps temporarily is a prescription of 7 to 10 days of prednisone but the condition always returns. More

Right after receiving vaccine my son became hyperventilating, shortness of breath and weak( he does have a history of asthma and anxiety ), shortly after he was still a bit weak but was allowed to leave the clinic nurse advised maybe he could use some fresh air, I agreed and proceeded to drive home ,shortly after arriving home I contacted the on call provider because my son was unable to stay awake ,was talking very faint just very unusual behavior. On call provider did recommended going to ER as symptoms were very concerning. Did end up going to ER were they ran lab panels , urine samples and did not find anything concerning. A few hours of being at the hospital he started to act more like himself and were able to leave the same day but they did recommended me following up with PCP ,Dr . On 2/17 was his ER follow up were I explained to his provider and she believes it was not an allergic reaction to vaccine but more of his Anxiety. Dr also recommended I report incident as a precaution. More
