What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

Can I trust VAERS data?

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

After a couple of months I started to have strange symptoms that appeared unrelated. Here is a list... After a couple of months I started to have strange symptoms that appeared unrelated. Here is a list: Stomach stuff: bloating (upper stomach area looks like I?m pregnant and it is hard) (pressing on it actually feels better but the release then hurts), rectal bleeding more with with firm bm?s . Constipation with hard bm?s and then diarrhea (tar like smells burnt), abdominal pain, cramping (heat pad helps a bit), feeling full after eating a small amount, nausea, weight loss and sometimes extreme weight gain from 125-189 then down again within 6 months, fatigue, exhausted all the time, feeling unwell, sometimes can?t have a bm even though I need to, other times diarrhea, (buggery), leaking of stool, feel dehydrated, Jaundice: face mostly, noticed by nurse at work a few months ago. Then I noticed it a couple of times. Flares up, I?ll be ok for a couple days-weeks and then I?ll have a really bad week or so: joint and bone pain and more recently intolerance to food (unsure what foods), end up in bathroom all night or in severe bone pain. Noticed an increase of sxs happen around my period. But my period over the last 6 months has gone from perfectly consistent every 25-27 days for about 5 days to spotting all month, no period or getting my period 2x/month while on birth control (used to help control cysts). Working on diet change but it just happens. Cannot eat greasy foods, definitely no fast food burgers, too much dairy, too many raw greens, cooked greens like broccoli or Brussels sprout. My favorite foods: traditional Colombian food or chicken curry, things with a kick, too much of anything seems to trigger stomach issues. Can?t eat, scared to eat: stomach flares, throw up after eating something, constipation mixed with diarrhea, might as well sleep in bathroom; extreme stomach pain not a normal tummy ache. Other sxs: Extreme exhaustion after physical or mental exercise or being in sun or heat. The slightest bit of activity: cleaning just the kitchen and not a deep cleaning just the dishes, counters, sink; grocery shopping; day of work (I have to lay down and rest). Taking a shower, just getting ready to shower is exhausting. I can?t turn the faucets sometimes, it?s like weakness in my hands and wrists mostly the right side. I?ll sleep (crash sleep) (not restful sleep) for 14+hrs and still be exhausted. Problems with memory or thinking skills (I will have the word in my head but can?t say it, words that I use all the time or I?ll say things backwards). Brain fog, confusion that increases my anxiety. Dizziness that worsens with moving from lying down or sitting to standing. Heat sensitivity: get dizzy, extremely hot, skin modeling, like heat exhaustion sxs. Night sweats, hot, wake up throughout the night soaking wet and joint pain. Orthostatic hypotension: happens occasionally no specific times. Brittle nails, will break on a strand of my hair. Typically my nails were never like that and were long. Brittle hair, loose clumps in shower or when brushing but this is on and off. Muscle or joint pain: my normal issue plus neck, right arm (fingers, hand, wrist, lower arm, elbow up to shoulder but no pain in shoulder). (Unsure if this is from assault at work or just more crap from my body) (slowly progressed over last 2yrs-started in right wrist and hand then up to elbow and going up towards shoulder (found bone spurs on C5-C6 and straightening of cervical spine. Now same thing is starting to happen in my right hand (hand, fingers, wrist). Reynauds syndrome: cold sensitivity, fingertips turn blueish white. Hand will also lighten in color. Unrefreshing sleep: I can sleep for 14hrs and wake up and feel exhausted or I can sleep 5hrs and feel the same. For 3 days 9/13/2022: felt fluish, bones hurt, joints hurt, swelling. Each night I was hot and sweating horribly. My own medicine wasn?t helping which normally does. Headaches (different from the migraines from the assault), sore throats, and tender lymph nodes in the neck (these don?t seem to ever really go away, mostly on my right side behind ear down to neck and jaw) or armpits (occasionally). Sensitive to light, heat (humidity), sound, smells, food and medication. Fever blisters in mouth n on lips after being in sun too long. Mood swings, feeling like I have a fever (occasionally I have a low grade fever). Swollen lymph nodes in neck off and on throughout the month. Last 6-7 months: My period is messed up. One month spotting all month except when placebo (no period), another month got period 2x. Normal me would be perfect every 27 days, normal period about 5 days minimal PMS sxs. No sex drive at all Before I hiked for hours, kayaking for hours, could clean 3-4 rooms (deep clean) pain after but not exhausted and fatigued. Could walk the beach, swim, spend the day, carry items. Now I can?t do this. Weight change after covid: went from 190lbs to 118lbs in a few months. joint pain (wrists, elbow, knuckles) this is newer (workers comp, assaulted by patient, neck injury, straightening of cervical spine and bone spurs C5-C6). This last flare up week of 9/13/2023 was the worst the pain has subsided but my muscles in my entire body feel sore and weak. Water from shower felt like I was pelted with hard rain/ice then I felt bruised for days but there was no bruising. Rashes and sores: in hair n hairline: little patches. Too much sun I get fever blisters on mouth. Red patchy skin on arms sometimes and little bumps inner side of arms. Scaly, itchy, patchy skin around nose down to corners of mouth. Modeling of the skin after exposure to sunlight Chest pain under right breast muscle comes and goes, sharp, stabbing pain Overexurstion it?s difficult to breathe thyroid issues: test in past said mild thyroid issues, recent tests showed issues with tsh but not t4: goes up and down. Recent tests confirmed antibodies attacking thyroid. But TSH, T4, T3 normal however a month prior T4 was elevated. Last few years I?ll balloon up from 130-190, 190 heaviest I?ve ever been. After receiving final injection, I was putting bandage on patient's arm and patient went pale a... After receiving final injection, I was putting bandage on patient's arm and patient went pale and started to faint and slump forward in chair, his grandmother who was present and looking at him head on reports that his eyes rolled back. I tried to support patient to the ground but I believe he hit the side of his head on the desk when he slumped over patient came to his knees with my support but kind of nose dived and his head landed on the ground. I helped him to roll to his side and he started having uncontrolled seizure like movements for about 5-6 seconds then he sat up and asked what happened. Unsure if patient had seizure or vasovagal response. Patient was alert and oriented, able to answer all questions....after this incident but laid down for about 20-30 minutes after the incident. He reported some numbness in his left arm and his arms felt a little heavy/weird where the shots were given. The numbness in his arm resolved after a few minutes. He does not have a previous hx of seizures, but grandmother reports that patient's mother has had seizures after a TBI in 2016. Patient reports he had eaten breakfast before appt. Per report from patient's perspective he reports that he got the feeling like before he goes to bed and couldn't keep his head up anymore and then he felt like he was dreaming. The entire incident was about 10-15 seconds. Patient was monitored for about 30 minutes afterwards and reports he was feeling well but tired before leaving. He was given juice and a granola bar. Recommended patient follow up with provider regarding the incident and recommended patient lay down for future vaccines -LSW, RN. More

The patient had the vaccination and just got shingles again. He/she thought that they injured his/her back during surgery. Three weeks later, the patient went to the PCP (primary care physician) and she told the patient that he/she had shingles. It was not nearly as painful as the first time. The patient guessed that was why the patient just thought it was sciatica.
