What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals
  • Remember: billions of vaccine doses have been safely administered

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

When she woke up she thought she was having a stroke. Her head was hurting and her eyes were burning. She was treating it was like a sinus headache/infection. After a few days her left eye was still hurting, so she went to eye Dr. He did an eye scan and asked some questions. He told her he thought it maybe symtoms of the Shingles vaccines. He prescribed her 12 days of Valtrex. After about 3 days of taking this medication she lost vision in her left eye. After about 2 days it cleared up and she was able to see again. She followed up with him again and she was better at this time. On Jan 10th she went to the Dentist with jaw pain. On Jan 17th she went to urgent care with fluid on the left ear. She was given antibiotics to take for 10 days. After taking the meds for 8 days she was any better. She callled her PCP. She was treated and prescribed levofloxacin. After about 3 days the medicine started to help the left ear. The left side of her face was itching around her eye and around her waist on her torso. She was cold, shaking, and feeling bad wanting to sleep alot. She went back to her PCP. The left ear was still red and was told to complete the medicine given at the last appt. She says she is a little better but is still weak and still itching and when she scratches it is painful but her headache finally went away. More

mother says in April 2024 he developed a dry cough. He was treated with antibiotics. By August 6th h... mother says in April 2024 he developed a dry cough. He was treated with antibiotics. By August 6th he was taken to his pedatrician to be checked. He had EKG, Chest XRAY, Bloodwork. He was prescribed another round of antibiotics. On August 15th he was rushed to Hospital ER. He was treated for severe tacycardia. His heartrate was 250. He was monitored for hours. He was released to follow up a cardiologist. They did an EKG and placed a heart monitor on him for 30 days. On Oct 30th 2024, he went into sustained ventricular tacycardia for 60 seconds. He was rushed to emergency room. He was admitted and treated for two weeks. They performed a cardiac ablasion on Nov. 4th. This procedure did not go well as he almost past away during the procedure. It took twice as long as it should have because when they zapped the heart and it skipped to the outside of the wall of the heart. He was sent to the cardiac ICU for recovery. They are not sure why his heart is in this condition. His genetic testing shows no reasoning for his medical condition and he is not unhealthy or do drugs, smoke or vape. He is now on sotolol medication indefinately and has severe restrictions. There is discussion of a pacemaker, difibulator, or another procedure in near future. More

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, she lost sight and fainted at school toward the end of the school day. She described not being able to think clearly and everything going dark. I took her to the pediatrician to be checked and no clear diagnosis was made. She continued to experience extreme dizzy spells brought on my changing positions and sometimes without any trigger. We saw two cardiologists over the course of several weeks while the symptoms continued. She is a competitive swimmer and was having symptoms in the water as well. All other causes were ruled out (no infections, no illness, no ear issues, etc.). Dr was able to determine that she was experiencing positional syncope and her blood pressure was fluctuating as well as her rate. That evening he developed a headache, took Tylenol with no relief. Headache worsened that night and over the next two days. Took Tylenol around the clock. On day 3 his neck became very stiff and painful, unable to rotate it at all. PCP notified. Next day both his shoulders when he woke up were stiff and unable to move them. Severe pain if he tried. Was unable to get out of bed. He was like a stiff man. Next day his hips and knees hurt also. He was a mess. Unable to get up out of bed to use toilet without maximum help. Dr. a rheumatologist was contacted and an appt made for the following week. After a complete interview and examination he told us patient had Polymyalgia Rheumatica, that was trigged by his body immune system reacting to the Prevnar vaccine. Was begun on Prednisone 40 mg and within 2 days he felt much better. He was slowly tapered down to the present 5 mg and has been unable x 2 tries to reduce further or the initial symptoms return. The fatigue was unbelievable! He would lay down and within 2 minutes he would be sound asleep. The Prednisone had no effect on this fatigue. More
