What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

Patient stated that about 2 days after the two vaccines (arexvy and capvaxive) were given on 8/25/20... Patient stated that about 2 days after the two vaccines (arexvy and capvaxive) were given on 8/25/2025 she noticed redness and extreme swelling at what she states is the shot site and then about a week later the spot began to turn black and numb. States the pain was excruciating and came in cycles would be a throbbing burning pain for about 10 seconds then be okay and would happen every so often. Upon visualization of the area shown to pharmacist on 9/21/25 the spot in question was not in the deltoid area where the vaccines would have been given. More toward the middle of the upper arm around the bicep area. Patient stated she started antibiotics around 3-4 days ago which would have made this about 3+ weeks from the date of vaccine. More

A few days later, the clinic called to inform me of the error. While my daughter has not had any adverse effects, I want this incident formally documented to help prevent similar mistakes in the future. If this had involved a stronger or less appropriate vaccine, the outcome could have been unpredictable and potentially harmful. I was also concerned that the nurse did not seem very apologetic, which makes me worry that the seriousness of this error may not be fully recognized. Approx 2 hours after receiving vaccine on left arm noticed stiffness and numbness in left shoulder. ... Before the end of the workday I had taken Ibuprofen either 200mg or 400mg which did not help with the pain, also still had stiffness, and decreased range of motion. After my shift was done I noticed that the Band-Aid placed over the vaccine site was in a peculiar place. At the end of my shift pain was 8/10. At home resting with additional pain meds no relief. Difficulty doing daily living activities like dressing, brushing hair, and driving. Returned to work next morning 8/26 and reported to supervisor. Filled out paperwork. Pain level 8/10. About mid-day went to Occupational Medicine for treatment. Was prescribed Ibuprofen 800mg, and left shoulder x ray. Due to pharmacy shortage, I did not get this med still about 2 weeks after injury. With medication pain left is 4-5. Pain increases when extending arm in front or reaching behind. Last occupational medicine appt 9/17 physical therapy prescribed. First PT appt is currently for 9/30. Received vaccine at 1000 on 9/2/2025 and states was fine all day and most of the next day. On 9/3/2025 started feeling disoriented and dizzy but thought it was her seizure disorder causing her to have an episode. Later on, started having double vision. Called primary provider on 9/4/2025 and was prescribed meclizine for vertigo and after 2 days with no improvment took dramamine over the counter because that has helped her with dizziness in the past. Saturday 9/6/2025 she started having a migraine headache and then on 9/7/2025, fell when got home from work and then had a seizure. Went to Emergency Department because where her neurologis is located and was diagnosed with internuclear ophthalmoplegia of both eyes and was worked up for multiple sclerosis and other neurodegenerative disorders until told them that she had recently had a flu vaccine and then they started looking into Miller Fischer Variant of EBV. Was treated with IgG and steroids and all symptoms resovled and was discharged. On 9/14/2025 she started with left sided facial droopig and numbness so went back to the hospital and was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy and is being treated with Valtrex for that. More
