What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

  • Publicly available - Published by the CDC/FDA on their official website
  • De-identified - Contains no personally identifiable information (names, addresses, contact info removed)

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns
  • Check official CDC/FDA safety communications for genuine safety signals
  • Remember: billions of vaccine doses have been safely administered

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Strengths:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

Pt took a seat in an armed chair and requested that it be administered in her right arm/deltoid. As soon as the vaccine had been administered the pt slumped over in the chair and became unresponsive. At times her hands would twitch. Pt husband stated this has happened recently, at least twice before this, once at a restaurant in May. As pt was breathing the pharmacist checked blood pressure and it was low. While checking pt's blood pressure the pt would drift in and out of consciousness. At no time did the pt stop breathing. As time progressed and pt did not respond the husband mentioned that the last time it helped to lay her down. So with the husbands permission and assistance from other pharmacy staff the pt was placed laying down on the floor with a sweatshirt placed under her head. After this occurred and the pt was still unresponsive the husband allowed the pharmacist to call 911. When EMS arrived the pt was responsive. EMS checked her blood pressure and found it was still low, they also saw some irregularity on her EKG. Pt refused to let EMS take her to the hospital and EMS waited to help her and the husband out their vehicle with a wheelchair we had gotten from the front end. More

It presented with severe muscles spasms on left side, notably trapezius and SCM, which resulted in chronic torticollis and inability to control my head/neck. Extremely painful. Saw at least 4 neurologists and received many rounds of neurotoxin injections with no relief, before finding a doctor who could treat me effectively. Currently receiving 400 units of Botox or Daxxify every three months, however symptoms seem to be slowly improving over time, which makes me even more confident that this was an acute reaction to the booster shot. FYI I had already been fully vaccinated with Moderna and never had a reaction, but I did the Pfizer booster and my symptoms started shortly after. More

After vaccination, mother came out of exam room, panicked, stating that she needed someone immediate... After vaccination, mother came out of exam room, panicked, stating that she needed someone immediately as patient had passed out and hit his head. Dr. went into the room to find patient laying on the floor in a prone position. He was able to arouse patient within a matter of 1 to 2 seconds through speaking to him. Advised him to remain laying down, but patient quickly arose and got onto the exam table. Somewhat confused after getting onto the table. He was instructed to lay down and be still. He sat up, stating that he could taste blood in the back of his throat. I examined his throat and nose and did not see any source of bleeding. Physical examination of his skull and neck (done with him lying supine on the exam table was normal. No tenderness elicited. Iadvised him to stay in a laying position and not move at all while we monitored him for the next 15 minutes or so. Within 5 minutes, patient began reporting pain in his head and neck. For this reason, I advised calling EMS, and somebody staying with him until EMS arrived to ensure that he did not move his head or neck. Advised getting a c-collar in place if we had it available. Within 10 minutes, EMS arrived, and patient's medical care was turned over to them. More
