What is VAERS?

VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) is a national early warning system established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines. It's co-managed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Is this data HIPAA compliant?

Yes, absolutely. All VAERS data displayed here is:

My vaccine lot number matches one with deaths/serious events - should I be worried?

Important context:

  • VAERS reports do NOT prove causation - A report means an event occurred after vaccination, but doesn't mean the vaccine caused it
  • Anyone can report - Reports are not verified for medical accuracy before being published
  • Coincidences happen - When millions of people get vaccinated, some will experience unrelated medical events afterward
  • Large lot numbers - Popular vaccines may have hundreds of thousands of doses from one lot number
  • More vaccinations = more reports - Lots used widely will naturally have more reports

What to do:

  • Don't panic - VAERS data requires expert analysis to interpret

Can I trust VAERS data?

VAERS is valuable but has limitations:

Bottom line: VAERS is an important tool for safety monitoring, but individual reports should not be used as proof that a vaccine caused harm.

What are "adverse events"?

An adverse event is any undesirable health occurrence that happens after vaccination, including:

  • Common reactions: Sore arm, mild fever, fatigue (usually expected)
  • Serious events: Hospitalization, disability, life-threatening illness, death
  • Coincidental events: Medical conditions that would have occurred anyway

Important: An adverse event doesn't mean the vaccine caused it - only that it occurred after vaccination. Many reported events are coincidental or unrelated.

Why are some lot numbers listed multiple times?

This is normal and expected! A person may receive multiple doses of the same vaccine from the same lot number:

  • COVID vaccines require 2-3 doses
  • HPV, Hepatitis B, and other vaccines have multi-dose schedules
  • Each dose is recorded as a separate entry

Example: Person receives Pfizer COVID dose 1 (lot ABC123) and dose 2 (lot ABC123) - lot ABC123 appears twice in their report.

How often is this data updated?

The CDC/FDA releases new VAERS data every Friday. This site is typically updated:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly for recent data
  • Check the available years to see what data is currently loaded
  • During updates, the site may be in maintenance mode temporarily

The child's legal guardian had signed consent for the child to receive the influenza vaccination at school on 10/16/25. The vaccine was administered at school on 10/16/25 by LPN (County Department of Public Health). When we went into the Immunization Registry to enter the immunization, the system would not allow us to enter the vaccine, stating the the child had received an influenza vaccine on 10/10/25. I contacted the child's guardian to discuss this. She reported that the child was seen to receive her COVID-19 vaccine. I advised the guardian to contact facility to verify what the child had received. Facility verified that she received influenza at her visit. The child's guardian did not understand how this had happened, as she expressed to me that she explicitly requested the COVID-19 vaccine at the child's appointment. We discussed that the child had now received 2 doses of influenza and no doses of COVID-19. I educated her to monitor for signs and symptoms of adverse reactions and what steps to take should this occur. Guardian stated understanding. In July 2021, approximately two months after my second Moderna COVID-19 vaccination, I began experie... In July 2021, approximately two months after my second Moderna COVID-19 vaccination, I began experiencing severe heart palpitations, prompting me to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist. I was evaluated on August 19, 2021. All cardiac tests were normal, and the cardiologist recommended that I have my thyroid checked. I did not pursue thyroid testing at that time. In mid-September 2021, I developed significant throat pain localized to the center of my neck. I visited my primary care provider, and over the following month, underwent multiple tests for COVID-19, strep throat, and influenza๏ฟฝall of which were negative. Despite two rounds of antibiotics, the pain persisted. In early November 2021, I noticed enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and along my collarbone. I was referred for diagnostic imaging, including an ultrasound on November 8, a CT scan on November 10, and a biopsy on November 19. I was subsequently diagnosed with metastatic thyroid cancer. I had no prior history of thyroid disease or related symptoms before this sequence of events. My surgery lasted approximately twelve hours and was complicated by a severe chyle leak caused by a large lymph node encasing the thoracic duct. It took more than a month and multiple procedures to resolve the leak. During surgery, three of my four parathyroid glands were removed, and the remaining gland is nonfunctional, resulting in chronic hypocalcemia. Physicians expressed concern because I have no family history of this aggressive form of thyroid cancer and no known exposure to radiation. I have also never tested positive for COVID-19. I would like to reference the study My cancer presentation closely mirrors the cases described in this report. When comparing my pathology findings to those outlined in the study, the conclusion was: "The extent of lymph node involvement and extranodal extension places your cancer closer to the more aggressive profile described in this study." Also, rash spreading to center of the back and under the right arm. 11/4/2025, PHN attempted to call patient at 8am to fill out VAERS. No answer via phone number on file. Patient did call and spoke with PHN stated did not receive a call from the HD this morning. She is reporting Redness to injection site-( LD), rash that goes to the center of her back and under her right arm. Also some bumps on the collar bone and neck area. All areas itch. Stated applied cortizone cream this morning and it helped the itching. Patient stated she has not been to a Medical Doctor or Emergency Room for these symptoms, but is going to go to the Emergency Room today. PHN asked if she will call after her appointment. Stated she will. Patient stated still having symptoms of: red swollen area at injection site, rash, bumps, itching. Patient also stated has had a flu vaccine in the past and no side effects. This reporter was called in to room evaluate patient after witnessed seizure like activity post immunizations (Flu followed by HPV vaccine). At time of my evaluation, patient no long er seizing, sitting up in bed, sobbing, while mom was holding patient and nursing staff at bedside. She was back to baseline at this time. Per nursing staff report who witnessed seizure like activity CMA: Per Dr administered influenza and hpv vaccine to the patient's right deltoid. Mom was holding the patient, she was bracing her arms around patient's both arms. Patient tolerated flu vaccine good, but when getting hpv vaccine the patient complained of severe pain as the vaccine was being injected. Upon needle withdrawal, a brief stream of blood was noted running down the patient's arm. Bleeding was controlled without complications. Right as the patient saw the blood, she got very rigid, especially both legs. Became unresponsive to the surroundings, skin got pale. Body was jerking/shaking. I wasn't able to see her eyes/face at that moment due to her head slouching forward. Patient's mom said "She is seizing, finally someone else is able to witness her having a seizure". The episode lasted about 10-20 seconds, I've got control over the lower part of the body (also retracted foot rest for her), while mom was holding her upper body, to make sure the patient wouldn't fall of the examine table. As soon as me and mom made sure she was positioned safely, I went out of the room to call for nurses/provider. When patient was coming out of the episode, she was taking deep breaths and started crying. Mom confirmed, from her observations, that how she presents when she is finished seizing. Patient was adjusted to lay down on the examine bed that was moved close to the wall and a provider and mom on her other side. Dr examined the patient and ordered to have her vitals checked every 10 minutes for the next 30 minutes. Her vitals was progressively improving, patient was looking and reported to be feeling much better. At the end of the 30 minutes, after last set of vitals and examine by a nurse, patient was stable to leave, accompanied by mom and her brother. More

She suggested that I use OTC medications. On 10/21/2025, I went to urgent care. I was prescribed 5 days of Prednisone and given a referral to orthopedics. The Prednisone did not help. The pain continued to get worse. On 11/5/2025, I saw Dr, orthopedic surgeon. X-rays were done, and showed only a small calcification, which may or may not have already been there. Dr performed some physical tests, which caused more pain. Suspecting a possible rotator cuff tear, Dr ordered an MRI. The MRI is scheduled for 11/14/2025. A follow-up will be scheduled to report MRI results. More
